Cladding guides
Short, plain-English guides from the workshop: how we measure, what the words mean, and how to choose.
The guides

How to measure pipe for cladding
One tape, a few numbers per fitting, and a photo if you are unsure. This is how we ask for sizes, so what you send is what we make.

Lobster-back vs radius bends
Two names, one fitting. The real choice on site is between a radius bend and a mitred elbow, and then how tight the radius is.

Aluminium vs stainless steel cladding
Aluminium is the everyday metal for insulation cladding. Stainless steel is there for the jobs that ask more of it. Here is how to tell which you need.

What is BS 5422
If you have read an insulation specification, you have almost certainly met BS 5422. Here is what it is, in plain words, and where the cladding comes in.

Lagging and jacketing explained
Three words that turn up on drawings, specs and site: lagging, cladding and jacketing. Two of them mean the same thing. Here is which is which.
Which guide do I need?
- Measuring a run on site, or not sure which size to give us? Read How to measure pipe for cladding.
- Not sure whether a turn needs a smooth bend or a hard corner? Read Lobster-back vs radius bends.
- Choosing the metal for the job? Read Aluminium vs stainless steel cladding.
- A specification mentions BS 5422? Read What is BS 5422.
- Heard lagging, cladding and jacketing used for the same thing? Read Lagging and jacketing explained.
- Want the whole pipework range on one page? Read Pipe cladding.
- Cladding ductwork rather than pipe? Read Duct cladding.
- Cladding a tank or a vessel? Read Tank and vessel cladding.
- Want to know how the finished pieces reach the site? Read Delivered across Ireland.
Still not sure? You do not need the right words to order: a photo and a tape measurement on WhatsApp is enough to get a price, and we aim to quote the same day.
More from the workshop
Every cladding word we use is on the trade terms page, one line each. What we make is gathered on three pages: pipe cladding, duct cladding and tank and vessel cladding. For getting the job to you, see delivery. Measuring on site with a phone? Read about the site-measure app.
Next step
Send the sizes, a drawing, a schedule or a photo and we aim to quote the same day. Sending a job is a quote request, not an order. Rather talk it through? Ring or WhatsApp the workshop on +353 87 212 6144, Mon–Fri 07:30–17:00.
